You can now read Motocross Me on Wattpad

After not really knowing what it is for a few years, I’m finally diving into the fun of Wattpad! If you’re not aware, Wattpad is a website where people share their original stories chapter by chapter. People can read them and vote on the chapters and leave comments for the author. It’s a fun social way to read books and since my daughter is addicted to it, I’ve recently checked it out myself.

(As if I needed more books to read than my already HUGE stack of TBR books? *sigh*)

The best part about Wattpad is that it’s all FREE! And I’ve recently decided to upload all of my self published books on there as I transition my work into traditionally published books. My books will still be available at booksellers in ebook and paperback, should you want a real copy. As always, I would be THRILLED if you read any of my books and decide to leave a quick review on Amazon or Goodreads (or both!)

Up first is my debut YA novel, Motocross Me. It’s a contemporary teen romance about a girl who moves to live with her dad on his dirt bike track for the summer, only to fall for two of the fastest dirt bike racers in the state.

Read it on Wattpad here: Motocross Me

Stay tuned for more books as I release them! As always, you can sign up for my 6 times a year newsletter to get links to all the fun bookish stuff in my world. (Sign up here: http://eepurl.com/bO3qgb)

Never trust a mermaid’s kiss.

Tyler McColdrum has a bright future on the professional surfing circuit until his father tragically dies at sea. Unable to pay the bills, Tyler and his mother leave California and move to his late grandfather’s cottage in Land’s End, Maine—a world away from the life he’s known. Not even the stormy Atlantic can douse Tyler’s surf stoke, but when mariners go missing off the coast, legends as old as the sea itself suggest something lurks beneath the surface. As the police investigate, his friend Kiwa—the only female surfer for miles—indicates there’s more to the McColdrum family history than blood and bone.

Amara is a beautiful mermaid, a mero, who wants a life on land away from her sinister sisters. As charming as mero are, with musical voices and a tempting gaze, they’re also brutal and cruel, stealing the souls of sailors. As Initiation nears, Amara learns Poseidon selected her as consort and her desperation for freedom increases. When Tyler encounters Amara, he falls hard for her. The ocean is no longer safe for him, but he trusts their love can overcome her mero nature. As locals and officials wage war against the sea, trying to keep mariners safe, Tyler and Amara struggle with how to protect each other.

With one foot in the sand and the other in the sea, Tyler must choose love or the surf as the tide quickly rises.

Age category: Young Adult
Release Date: October 27, 2016

The Community is safe.
Unless you have superpowers.

Sixty years ago, a hallucinogenic plague annihilated half the world’s population, leading to the formation of the Community—an international government that promises its citizens safety, security, and efficiency. Every day, Community citizens swallow a mandatory pill to ensure their immunity to the plague. A year after graduating high school, they take the Health Scan.

Most pass, and continue with their lives. Others disappear.

Eighteen-year-old Jenna Nickleson hasn’t taken the pill since her senior year in high school. She feels more alive without it, and she hasn’t shown any signs of infection—at least, not until two days after a surprise Health Scan is announced and Special Forces arrive at her university campus.

Spurred by the recent string of hallucinations, Jenna searches for any inkling of what happens to those who fail the scan. Rumor has it that they’re sent away for treatment and, once cured, receive a menial job. But when she uncovers the cruel truth behind the plague, her ideal world is shattered.

Underneath the illusion of safety, Special Forces agents harbor a dark secret.

The plague is a lie.

Excerpt:
There was a fifteen minute break between classes. Since the two buildings were right next to each other, that was plenty of time for me to browse EYEnet. My primary question regarded the old man’s warning that I’d fail the scan. I focused on the blog from my friend in high school—the one whose sister failed.
According to Galina’s posts, she’d been afraid of failure early on, and on the day of the Health Scan, she’d made another post reiterating the same fear. She’d been having hallucinations that liquids would shape themselves from images in her thoughts, and she was sure she had theophrenia.
It’d been almost a year since Galina left, but I wasn’t sure how long the recovery effort lasted. I checked the last active day she was on her account. There was nothing since the day of her scan.
I checked other blogs, searching for any references to fear of failure. One girl thought she could fly. Another guy swore he could read his professor’s mind. All signs of advanced delusions, and in each case, they didn’t return.
Three years passed. Five. Nothing.
A chill ran through me. The old man said to try controlling vines and grass. That was crazy. Impossible. And yet… I’d felt that stem move. I’d seen it move.
My phone chimed a one-minute warning before class. Students stirred and finished their conversations, and I stared at the small screen of my phone. Only one person, out of the entirety of blogs I’d found, had ever come back.

Kindle eBook giveaways on Goodreads!

Recently, Goodreads announced that they’re expanding their giveaways program to include Kindle eBooks. It’s about time! I’m very excited for this program because now indie authors can get their books into more hands. Paperback giveaways are fun, but they’re also expensive. I recently spent $15.50 to mail a book to Canada and $27 to mail one to Bosnia. OUCH. Most indie authors aren’t well off by any means, so mailing books internationally, or even domestically, can really break our wallets.

Empty wallets = no money for coffee.
No coffee = no books getting written.

Not cool!

But a new Goodreads ebook giveaway program? Very cool.

They’re still working on it but as soon as it’s up, I’ll let you guys know how to enter to win some of my books!

Cool new Amazon Embed feature

Amazon has this new feature and it’s free and fun and can even earn you some extra money if you’re an Amazon Affiliate. It’s called the feature and it’ll work on any ebook, not just your own!

Embed is perfect for giving someone a free preview of your book from your own website, and you don’t have to code anything yourself. You don’t have to send people to a separate link to read, so they can stay on your own website and browse your books. Also, Amazon let’s you include a Buy Now button so they can purchase it if they wish.

Also, it’s FUN.

Here’s how you do it:

From a book’s Amazon page, over on the right hand side where the buy buttons are, go down to the very bottom and click on where it says .

Then configure the widget anyway you’d like. Make sure to click on the option to embed the HTML on your own site. (click image to make it bigger)
Then, paste the HTML into your own site and BAM! Free preview! I’ve included a preview of COL on my homepage. Click here to see it, or click the Home link up above ^. I also included previews for all of my books on their book pages
Here’s what it looks like in action:
This new feature is definitely cool and very useful! Please let me know what you think in the comments!
